Another day, another humorous mental burp from those crazy kooks at The Corner. I checked over there to see how they would defend Bernie Kerik (Rudy’s best buddy) after his 14-point indictment. Not a peep about that (what a surprise!) but I did find something else quite amusing.
Some genius named David Freddoso posted a bit of pure wingnut brilliance entitled "A Small, Temporary Victory for the Freedom of Conscience," wherein he manages to perform some truly tortured (yet amusing) leaps of logic.
Here's where we begin:
A federal judge in Washington State suspended a state law yesterday that forces pharmacists to sell the abortifacient "morning-after pill."
Of course, we love the "scare quotes." Always the sign of a serious rant. And there are more to come.
Note how the victimized pharmacists are being forced to sell the legal birth control that a customer may want to purchase. Just picture the hairy-legged Feminazis holding Uzis to the poor victimized pharmacists and demanding that they hand over the pills!
And being a rightwing crank, one must equate all forms of birth control with abortion. Clearly, women cannot be allowed to control their own reproductive choices, and any woman who becomes pregnant under any circumstances must be required to give birth!
...this sort of compulsion is required in order to drive all believing Christians out of the medical professions, and this is the goal of some liberals.
Ah yes, those wicked liberals persecuting the helpless, victimized Christian pharmacists. It’s an epidemic. It won’t be long before Bill O’Reilly declares a War on Pharmacists.
Dave continues further down this path of genius:
The push to guarantee continued unlimited legal abortion and "reproductive rights" comes only at the expense of property rights and freedom of conscience (or in this case both).
So providing over-the-counter birth control now equals unlimited legal abortion.
Plus, more of our beloved "scare quotes."
Note that he says:
... comes only at the expense of....
Apparently, the ONLY way legal birth control can be provided to paying customers is by depriving pharmacists of their inalienable rights (sort of like how the Bush Administration has been depriving American citizens of their Constitutional rights, but nevermind that)
But you know there has to be more, right? Here’s the big finish:
We're nibbling at these rights around the edges. Think about this: When we legalize assisted suicide — like Plan B a "medical treatment" that is not intended to cure any disease — we might already have the laws in place to force pharmacists to sell the lethal drugs. How would you like to be the first pharmacist put out of business for refusing to take part in someone's suicide?
The sheer crackpot genius of this leap in logic gave me a good laugh. Yes, the logical extension of providing birth control is enforced suicide. Don’t you get it?
Not only does birth control equal abortion, it also equals suicide!
This has been a glimpse into the twisted, dark little mind of a wingnut. It’s a scary place to be.
